The film was produced by Sooraj Barjatya and under the banner of Barjatya Studios. The film was also referred to as Priyanka Chopra - Nikkhil Advani in India.
Salute To Love was released on 8 November 2007 and became the second highest opening film of that year. The film received critical acclaim for its screenplay, direction, story, cinematography, songs, acting and performances. It is considered to be a classic in the Indian cinema.
The film was directed by Nikkhil Advani, who is best known for his social activist films such as Dharam Veer, Jodhaa Akbar and Wanted. The film is based on a novel of the same name by Devaki Jain.
Plot
Two generations of the Shinde family, consisting of Meera, Manju, Rohan and Vishal Shinde, live in a dense jungle. The eldest son, Manju, (played by Salman Khan) struggles to become a doctor. His second wife Jahnavi (Priyanka Chopra) is a gold medalist in swimming. The rest of the family are not educated. Rohan (Nikunj Matoo), who is an architect, wants to become a writer, Meera (Nandana Sen) dreams of becoming a singer, and Vishal wants to become a doctor. After her marriage with Manju, Jahnavi gives up her dream of becoming an international swimmer. Manju and Jahnavi's marriage is an arranged one, but Manju grows to love Jahnavi. Rohan's work enables him to get an apartment in Bangalore. He feels lonely there and finally meets Meera. Vishal is skeptical about his knowledge, and does not believe in Jahnavi's dream of becoming a singer. Manju and Jahnavi visit the Shinde house every year, for Meera's birthday, in order to listen to her singing. During one of these visits, Manju starts a romantic relationship with Jahnavi, but is unable to understand why Jahnavi wants to give up everything. Jahnavi finds out about Manju's visit to their house, and is shocked. Manju reveals that he respects Jahnavi for her decision. The young couple keeps this a secret from their family, and it is soon revealed to Rohan, who becomes upset. He persuades Meera to tell her family about their relationship.
